This week’s question involves a mother who was sedated against her will and whose child was then forcibly removed from her womb, by Caesarian Section. The social workers involved belonged to Essex Social Services; the mother was an Italian national who came to Britain in July last year to attend a training course with an airline at Stansted Airport in Essex.

The mother came to the attention of the Local Authority when she suffered a panic attack and called the police. She had forgotten to take her medication for a bipolar condition.
